Computational Physicist

Verus Research is searching for a Computational Physicist to participate in research and development efforts across multiple technical areas, including plasma and beam-based radiation sources, high-current pulsed power machines, nuclear technologies, and complex system integration efforts.

The Computational Physicist will be required to participate in and lead analysis supporting the development of high energy density physics (HEDP) capabilities, including radiation sources. The candidate is also expected to work collaboratively with teams of engineers and scientists to achieve integrated outcomes for system development. The ideal candidate for the Computational Physicist role will possess a strong mix of leadership traits, design and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions.  Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • 3+ years of experience performing numerical simulations and analysis supporting HEDP research in government, industry, or academia
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, nuclear engineering, electrical engineering or a related field
  • Experience in HEDP/radiation modeling and simulation to support experiment and hardware design
  • Modeling and simulation of plasma or radiation interactions with matter to support experiment and hardware design
  • Prior experience using physics codes, including Alegra, Mach, LSP/Chicago, GEANT, MCNP or similar magnetohydrodynamics, multi-fluid, particle-in-cell, and electromagnetic codes
