FPGA Design Engineer

Verus Research is searching for an experienced Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio of research and development programs in signals intelligence, electronic intelligence, radar and telemetry systems, and technologies that blend the domains of directed energy and electronic warfare (EW).

The candidate will work with a team of engineers and scientists in the field of EW, radio frequency (RF) communications, and RF/microwave systems. The position requires identifying customer requirements, generating technical responses, formulating designs, and working with internal technical teams to ensure successful program outcomes on time and on budget.

The ideal candidate for the role will possess a strong mix of technical and analytical skills, and the ability to understand and communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions.  The position is based in Albuquerque, NM.

Success in this dynamic role will stem from:

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical or computer engineering or similar applicable field (advanced degree preferred)
  • 2+ years’ demonstrated experience in implementing and optimizing complex signal processing algorithms with FPGAs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Verilog and/or VHDL for synthesis and simulation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FPGA design flow using the entire Vivado toolchain, including FPGA design, simulation and implementation; PetaLinux build process; and SDK/Vitis™ build environment
  • Understanding of complexity analysis for trades in algorithm area and performance
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate on complex algorithms and methods
  • U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of state machines both in FPGAs and software highly desired
  • Knowledge of RF communications and forward-error correction algorithms highly desired
