Mechanical CAD Designer

Verus Research is searching for a Mechanical CAD Designer to participate in the development of designs in a broad array of technical areas, including pulsed power design, high-power microwave design, vacuum systems, and directed energy system integration.  The Mechanical CAD Designer will be required to take preliminary mechanical and electromechanical concepts and, under the guidance of senior staff, mature them into solid models suitable for review by our customers.  Once approved, successful candidates must be able to convert these concepts into mechanical and electromechanical prints suitable for fabrication.  This posting is for work in the Albuquerque, NM, area.

The ideal candidate for the Mechanical CAD Designer role must possess strong communication skills, foremost being the ability to discuss complex mechanical concepts with senior scientists and quickly develop realistic CAD models with a minimum of design iterations.  Furthermore, the successful candidate must demonstrate a depth of knowledge using SolidWorks® software to mature these concepts.  Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Holding (or being able to obtain) a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance
  • Associate’s degree in computer aided drafting or related discipline
  • Over 2,000-hrs experience using SolidWorks® to develop CAD models and fabrication prints in a production or research and development environment
  • 2 or more years of experience working in relevant technical areas, including pulsed power, high-power microwave design, vacuum systems, or aerospace design
  • Experience developing fabrication prints per ANSI Y14.1 is highly desired
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing desired
