Space and Autonomy Technical Director

Verus Research is searching for a Space and Autonomy Technical Director to lead our growing Space and Autonomy Portfolio that conducts research and development to advance and enable the deployment, safety, and trustworthiness of autonomous systems, through algorithm development, software development, test, evaluation, and verification.

As the Space and Autonomy Technical Director, your primary responsibilities will center on leadership and strategic direction. You will lead a dynamic team composed of engineers, scientists, and program managers, all specialized in the realms of space and autonomy. Your role will entail engaging with tech-savvy clients, discerning their needs, generating technical responses and proposals, devising execution strategies, and collaborating with diverse technical teams to deliver successful program outcomes, all while adhering to timelines and budgets. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our senior leadership to identify and pursue new avenues for growth. This posting is for work in Albuquerque, NM.

The ideal candidate for the Space and Autonomy Technical Director role will possess a strong mix of leadership traits, technical and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions.  Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Technical Leadership Experience: You should have at least 8 years of proven experience in leading technical programs and managing teams, preferably in support of U.S. Department of Defense customers and U.S. space programs
  • Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree or higher in aeronautical, computer, electrical, or mechanical engineering or a related discipline is required
  • Proposal Development: A track record of leading the development and composition of successful technical white papers and proposals for federal research and development customers is essential
  • Team Leadership: Demonstrated expertise in recruiting, leading, and managing a highly technical and research-oriented staff
  • Software Development: Proficiency in software development best practices and experience in managing software development activities
  • Technical Background (preferred): A strong technical background with demonstrated knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomy technologies is advantageous
