Summer Intern — Nuclear/Electrical Engineering

Verus Research is searching for a Nuclear/Electrical Engineering Summer Intern to assist research and development into radiation effects on semiconductor devices using a neutron fusion device.

The Nuclear/Electrical Engineering Summer Intern will work alongside Verus Research scientists and engineers to perform a series of experiments parasitically conducting radiation effects and measurement tests (e.g., magnetic field measurements and neutron effects on small electronic devices). These tests are the first steps in this study that will begin to identify the means and methodology to understand combined environment effects. Aside from radiation effects and measurements this internship may also involve modeling and simulations (example codes and Xyce). A potential for the continuation of this work exists and later work will involve more detailed testing, modeling and simulation development. The Nuclear/Electrical Engineering Summer Intern will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting test results. The intern will also be responsible for the design and documentation of the test apparatus, setup, and execution of test(s). This level of design and iteration will occur in a collaborative team environment that involves other engineering disciplines and our technical customers.

This posting is for work in Albuquerque, NM, and is intended to be a summer 2025 appointment only.

Verus Research is prepared to pay for round-trip travel to and from Albuquerque, as well as lodging expenses during your stay in Albuquerque for the summer. Transportation needed through the duration of the internship, but Not Provided.

The ideal candidate for the Nuclear/Electrical Engineering Summer Intern role will possess strong design and problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions.

Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or doctorate’s degree in Nuclear/Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with radiation effects on semiconductor devices and radiation diagnostics, design and development of radiation test(s) setup and execution, and modeling and simulation codes, including MCNP and Xyce, preferred
  • Willingness to perform hands-on work
  • Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work well in a team
