Senior Pulsed Power Engineer

Verus Research is searching for a Senior Pulsed Power Engineer to participate in research and development efforts across multiple technical areas, including high-current and high-voltage pulsed power machines, electromagnetic pulse (EMP) systems, and complex system integration efforts.

The Senior Pulsed Power Engineer will be required to participate in and eventually lead the synthesis of pulsed power solutions for advanced testing technologies. The Senior Pulsed Power Engineer will design and develop novel pulsed power systems and perform experimental testing and analysis to support system applications. Applications include high-current and high-voltage applications from mega-ampere Z pinch drivers to mega-volt EMP systems. The candidate is also expected to work collaboratively with teams of engineers and scientists to achieve integrated outcomes for system development. The ideal candidate for the Senior Pulsed Power Engineer role will possess a strong mix of leadership traits, design and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions.

Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics, or a bachelor’s degree with additional years of experience in lieu of advanced degree
  • 5+ years’ experience working in relevant technical areas in a Department of Defense research or production environment
  • 5+ years’ experience developing high-voltage or high-current pulsed power systems
  • Significant experience using circuit simulation software such as PSpice®, Micro-Cap, LTSpice®, MATLAB® and Simulink®, etc. to model analog circuits
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design and operation of pulsed power systems operating at 50 kV and greater
  • Experience in laser trigger systems and simulation benchmarking against test results highly desired
