Verus Research is searching for a Principal Software Engineer to lead and manage high-profile research and development projects within our Space and Autonomy portfolio for the Department of Defense (DoD).
The Principal Software Engineer candidate should be a leader and problem-solver with a proven ability to deliver superior results as part of a high-performing team in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. The candidate will apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts for highly classified systems, while also effectively communicating complex results with management and executive leadership. The Principal Software Engineer will work as part of a larger team with customers, external partners, vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support personnel. The position requires working with tech-savvy customers, identifying their requirements, generating technical reports, formulating execution strategies, and working with diverse internal technical teams. The Principal Software Engineer will also work closely with our senior staff in identifying and pursuing additional growth areas.

The ideal candidate for the Principal Software Engineer role will possess a strong mix of leadership traits, technical and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions. Success in this demanding role will stem from:
- U.S. citizenship
- Active Top Secret SCI clearance
- Master’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM), Information Technology, Computer Science, or similar
- 10+ years’ systems engineering experience related to space and/or ground systems
- Expert knowledge in development, integration, test and delivery of software applications for both ground and flight software applications for spacecraft
- Experience:
- With establishing agile software development and test environments and implementing CI/CD pipelines
- Working in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.), classification environments, and implementing cross-domain solutions
- In DoD program management, including program development and transition with Integrated Master Schedules and risk management
