Project Controller

Verus Research is searching for a Project Controller.  Through direct involvement in multiple projects of varying contract type, size, complexity, and level of risk, the Project Controller participates in planning, tracking, analyzing, and reporting on these efforts.  The selected candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of and broad experience applying the principles, concepts, practices, and standards of Program Control and cost accounting skills.  Extensive knowledge of U.S. defense industry contract practices is highly preferred.  This role requires regular interface with project managers, senior technical staff, and other functional areas, including contracting, subcontract management, finance, and procurement.

This posting is for work in the Albuquerque, NM, area.

The ideal candidate will possess a balanced mix of leadership, teamwork, communication, and analysis skills, as well as the ability to provide managers across a large and growing array of programs with insightful, proactive, highly tailored, agile, and “right-sized” support.  This support includes estimating, pricing, forecasting, and contract compliance monitoring.

Success in this demanding role will stem from:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or related discipline (Master’s degree a plus)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a relevant business environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal government accounting and contracting policies
  • Experience leading project control activities to include monthly business rhythm of Estimate at Complete (EAC) updates, Monthly Status Report (MSR) generation, Program Statusing, and Variance analysis
  • Experience with multiple types of government contracts such as: Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF) and Time and Material (T&M)
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze financial data with strong analytical skills
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management principles, practical knowledge of ANS/EIA-748 standards.
  • Understanding of common scheduling tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or Open Plan
  • Understanding of common cost management tools such as COBRA, OPDEC, COSTPOINT, OAC, or JAMIS
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
