Project Controls Manager

Verus Research is searching for a Project Controls Manager to lead our project controls team and develop an Earned Value Management (EVM) “Lite” reporting process. The Project Controls Manager will need experience building and managing teams, estimating, planning, scheduling, and cost control within a small business Department of Defense, research and development environment.

The Project Controls Manager is responsible for ensuring the project controls team provides end-to-end analysis and reporting of program cost and schedule in support of the Program Manager, Chief Operating Officer, and Finance Department. This individual will have a complete understanding of and deep experience with application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards in project controls.

The ideal candidate will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, strong project management and analytical skills, a desire to develop innovative solutions, willingness to contribute at the technical and managerial levels, and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide variety of stakeholders.  This posting is for onsite work in Albuquerque, NM.

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 10 or more years of experience working in a relevant business environment or a Master’s degree in accounting or finance and eight (6) years or more experience working in a relevant business environment
  • High-level knowledge of best scheduling practices within Microsoft Project or similar software
  • Experience leading project control activities, to include monthly business rhythm of estimate at complete (EAC) updates, monthly status report (MSR) generation, status reporting, and variance analysis
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal government accounting and contracting policies
  • Experience with multiple types of government contracts such as: Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF) and Time and Material (T&M)
  • Knowledge of and experience with application of Earned Value Management (EVM) practices, requirements, analysis, and reporting
  • Past experience standing up and leading teams, creating policies and procedures, and leading multiple internal projects with different deadlines
