Senior Hardware In the Loop (HWIL) Engineer

Verus Research is searching for a Senior Hardware In the Loop (HWIL) Engineer as part of the Combined Environments Design of Experiments (CEDE) program.  The Senior HWIL Engineer will lead and perform research and development with a team of both full-time and part-time personnel in support of identifying capabilities and shortfalls of existing HWIL facilities to combine the separable radiation functional effects responses.

The ideal candidate for the Senior HWIL Engineer position will possess a strong mix of leadership and research and critical thinking skills, demonstrate a deep domain understanding of HWIL testing techniques and radiation hardening testing of micro-electronics systems and sub-systems.  This individual must be able to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. The candidate will work independently and with a team to identify and mitigate technical risks in the design and implementation of radiation effects models in hardware architectures and mentor younger team members in technical disciplines and complex engineering principles vital to the successful execution of program objectives. This posting is for work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Success in this exciting role will stem from:


  • U.S. Citizenship
  • An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a bachelor’s degree with addition years of experience in lieu of advanced degree
  • 5-8 years of experience working radiation testing and/or radiation modeling, with at least 3yrs leading technical projects.
  • Background in physics, image processing, and/or signal processing
  • Experience with hardware interfaces, GPUs, including using CMake, CUDA, and GPU optimization, also interface control documents (ICDs) or application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Familiarity with space and nuclear radiation environments
  • Experience in measurement and characterization of radiation effects in electrical devices
